Stay Healthy for the Holidays 

The holiday season is full of wonderful celebration and lots of party preparation; we don't have time to get sick.  Follow these 5 habits and avoid germs that will keep you from enjoying the sparkle of the season
  1. Don't scrimp on sleep. Sleep balances hormones and helps with immune response.  Also, being fully rested helps drivers avoid accidents on busy holiday roads.
  2. Wash your hands.  80% of infectious diseases are transmitted by touch.  By washing your hands for 30 seconds, you can avoid dangerous bacteria such as e.coli and influenza.
  3. Take time to relax. While the holiday season is short, it is long enough to show the effects of chronic stress. Stress negatively impacts immune response.  Schedule down time into your season, whether is it by watching that favorite holiday movie  or taking a walk.
  4. Get some sunlight. Vitamin D, which we get from sunlight, strengthens the immune system. Also, by taking in some natural light during the daylight hours, Seasonal Affective Disorder can be avoided.
  5. Exercise moderately.  Most of us do not get enough exercise to begin with, and the business of the holidays amplifies the struggle.   Combat this by turning your holiday celebrations into celebrations of fitness.  Instead of going out for drinks and heavy food, meet for a session of night skiing or snowshoeing.
